The Tom Morton Cup showcases the very best of our club's natural history images. This year's external judge is Ron Tear. We encourage all members to enter up to 4 images (see below) as it is a chance to receive feedback, suggestions and critique. Email them to dpi@h2photo.org.uk with the word NaturalHistory as the email subject. Please send them to us by 11pm Monday night at the latest.  How to prepare your images can be found on our website. Go to Members Area > Competition Rules > Submission Guidelines (If we receive more images than our judge can have time to give a worthwhile critique, we will remove one of the images from each submission of four. We had a club critique evening where for the first half, we all (both members and guests) were divided into groups of four or five, kindly plonked - it was painless, honest - into a break-out room, to discuss members' images under the theme: Winter. It is interesting that having less people in a group, there is more chat and discussion, and an hour passed very quickly critiquing our own and other members' images. For the second half we were 'released' and discussed our comments with the whole club. It proved fascinating to hear the many, various and sometimes, contrasting views from members. A learning experience. And great fun Rest Awhile by Marie King   Macro Month Mania - Time's Flying By... H2 members, do take a look at our club Flickr page for the latest macro & close-up images that have been uploaded. And do keep them coming... As was said, it's the perfect genre for these cold days and dark winter evenings because we can plan and produce the images in the warmth of home. The subject is open - certainly that includes natural history, but also we can use any object or objects to create a different and ingenious image. The only limit is our imagination. And on Thursday 18 February, we'll have a fun critique evening - we may even use those 'break-out' rooms mentioned above - exciting stuff. So, come-on H2 members, get those cameras out, dust off our shutter-finger, encourage those "little grey cells", and... ... get clicking!   H2 Featured in Local Press For those of you that read the Bishops Stortford Flyer will have seen that our club is featured on page 21 of this month's issue.   Do take a look at February's Flyer here. Another Place by Stan Chippett Your Thoughts, Please We are starting an occasional column entitled "From Our Own Correspondent" for members to express their views on any topic they care to write about. So come on you budding writers, let us hear what you have to say. Email your words to mail@h2photo.org.uk    Fete 7 by Dave Hobbs (An excellent example of an image that our local Parish Magazine would be interested in - see below)   The Much Hadham Parish Magazine Needs You As we look towards Spring, the editor of our local parish magazine would love to see some of our images of Much Hadham and its environs, to grace the front page of the next issue. So please look through your archives; Have you any images that were taken in those halcyon pre-covid days. Ash Valley bluebells? The summer fete, perhaps? The ford during the summer? Images need to be 'portrait' format and in colour. Just pop them up on our H2 Flickr page or email them here, with the subject: Parish Magazine Peter Warne - Wildlife of Copped Hall   Friend of the club, and excellent speaker, Peter Warne is giving a talk on behalf of the Copped Hall Trust.  The talk concerns the wildlife of Copped Hall and the surrounding area with the bulk of the images taken in 2020.   He will be using the webinar facilities by EFDC and their licence allows 100 participants so there should be plenty of room.  We are asking for £5 from each computer seat all of which will go to the restoration fund which like so many good causes needs some swelling after last year.   The talk will be at 7pm on 10th March and last for about an hour. Tickets can be secured on-line through “ticketsource” on our website www.coppedhalltrust.org.uk .   H2 Programme for February 2021   Here is our programme for the next few weeks.
