The H2 Newsletter

Welcome to this week's H2 Newsletter. This Thursday's meeting was made over to our Time Stamp Photographic Exhibition preview evening.

Along with members, we invited those good people of the Much Hadham area who have kindly helped and assisted us in both settling into our new venue, and have been willing to have their photographs taken for potential inclusion in our exhibition. This has been a two-way learning experience for the majority of members because it has given us an opportunity to take portraits, both formal and environmental; an experience that is outside the comfort zone for both photographer and sitter. Certainly, I found it a helpful, positive experience. And great fun.

As you can see from the picture, the 48 prints were suspended from roof-ties with fishing line. This gave the impression that the pictures were 'floating' in space. It did throw up one or two challenges with regard to ensuring immovable fixings and keeping the images straight and level, but overall it worked well. We had many comments complimenting the high quality of the images and several enquiries from potential members.

We also had a loop of PDIs on a screen playing throughout the preview. These images featured many of those images not selected for the print competition itself, along with members' images from last season's competitions. And to add a cherry on the top, we served wine and cheese. Yes, the evening was a great success.

So we've had the preview, now onto the main event:
The Time Stamp Photographic Exhibition.
It's this Sunday 15 September from 10am to 5pm and it would be great to see as many of you as possible come along. Also, please spread the word to family and friends that it is happening; put it out on the social media of your choice. This is a great opportunity to advertise our club and gain new members.
We have organised a judge for Sunday. At 3pm, Dr Julie Hutson DPAGB will be critiquing all the prints and will award first, second and third positions.

New Season - Exciting Times
Looking towards the new season which begins this Thursday 19 September (where did that summer go...?) we have the New Season open evening with a review of last season's best work and the presentations of the cups and shields to the winners.

Members also should be preparing prints for submitting into the Tony Perryman Monochrome Print Competition on Thursday 10 October; entries should be entered the week before on Thursday 3 October.

For those members who have not entered mono prints before, this is your opportunity. And we are here to help; please ask one of the committee members and we can assist with everything from image preparation and presentation - come on, guys and gals, go for it.

Below, we feature members' images that have been recently uploaded to our H2 Flickr group page. It is always worth taking a look at what is going on on Flickr and members really appreciate seeing new work.
