The H2 Newsletter

End of an Era

First off, let me apologize for the size of today's newsletter,  there is a lot happening at H2 at the moment so plenty to write about, best settle down with a cuppa to read this one.

Last night was the end of an era for the club in many ways.  Our last meeting at The Moot House, last meeting as Harlow Photographic Society and the last with Malcolm at the Helm and Yvonne looking after us.

It was good to see lots of old faces on Thursday to mark the end of Malcolm's 30 year long tenure as chairman of the club.  It is difficult to understate the amount of work Malcolm put into making the club run as well as it did and everyone in the club appreciates how much he has done for us.

Malcolms presentation
As a small token of our thanks, Paul Major presented a gift from all the members to Malcolm.
Tony Perryman presented Malcolm with one of his much prized sculptures
Another long standing contribution to the club has been Yvonne who has gallantly been serving us teas and coffees for the last 30 years.  With the move to Much Haddham she will no longer be able to great us with a hot cup of tea and a warm smile.

She will be sorely missed.

A Giant Leap For H2

After many months of thinking and discussion the initial launch of H2 Photographic Society will commence on July 4th 7:30 when you are all invited to attend.  It will be a celebration of our history and a look into the future. Taking place at our new home in Much Hadham (see below).

The club will be serving free food and drink to members and we would love to see you all attend.  Everybody is invited.

As many of you are aware we recently conducted a survey of our members to get their input and thinking about what they wanted from their club.  The results were very interesting and very much inline with the thoughts of the committee.  All will be revealed on July 4th.

To launch the club in the local area and to create some positive PR for the club H2 will be creating an exhibition of our work a series of 60 photographic prints that will be exhibited at the village hall on the 26th August 2019.  They will also be available for viewing on the following 3 Thursday evenings.

We are strongly encouraging all current and maybe even some future members to participate in this exhibition.  H2 club will be organising a series of summer practical sessions every Thursday through July and some of August where we will be using the time to take the photographs for the exhibition.

The title and theme of the exhibition is “Time-Stamp Much Hadham”.  It will be a creative record of every element of life in Much Hadham and as a historical record of life in the village in 2019.

Photographic members of H2 will be encouraged to use their skills and talents to capture photographs of the people and places of Much Hadham.  This could also include the flora and fauna internal and external shots of buildings.  In fact we want to have as wide a range of photographs as possible taken in the village. We have also help from some local residents who are contacting a long list of local “characters” who would be willing to be photographed.

The list of people and places suggested will be disclosed on July 4th at our celebration kick-off meeting.  However, please don’t let this limit you in anyway.  We are using this exhibition as a group club task so that we all step out of our comfort zones, learn and improve our photographic skills.

Those members who contribute towards the exhibition and we hope that will be everybody will also get the opportunity to exhibit some of their own favourite images from their collection of past images to give the people who will be attending the exhibition and idea of the range of skills and interests we have within H2.

The task to put on this exhibition of 60 images within just six weeks is a challenge. To be able to create a body of work of a quality worth exhibiting on the theme of Much Hadham will definitely require us digging deep and using our collective skills and experience.  We think that it will help every member who participates to be part of a ambitious and thriving club.  One that can work together for the benefit of the members. We know it is a challenging goal but one which we think we can achieve. The results will be worthwhile for us all and really put H2 on the map.  It might also give us some stunning images for inter-club competitions and really announce H2 into the club scene :).

This is the first step in a plan to make our club not just one of the best in the country but one of the best in the world.
