Last night was a talk by Dave Peck who in the first half took us through his land and seascapes.  Talking about the adventures he has had and discussing his compositions and approach to landscape photography.
In the second half, he talked about his drone photography, which was new to most members of the club, though I feel not for long.  His inspiring images and the way he was happy to explain how he uses a drone meant that there was a lot of interest.  It is always a good sign when there is a group of people around a speaker at the end asking questions.

This Thursday 12 March

It's a still life evening, Alan, Chris and Paul will be bringing some lights in, so feel free to bring in some subjects you would like to play with.   It is a practical evening so don't forget your cameras and tripods (if you have them).

There is lots of activity on our H2 Flickr page. You will see from the panels further down that we are promoting (yes, there's a prize to be won - see Fabulous Flickr February, below) and developing it as a resource for all of our members. We see our H2 Flickr page as a place to "continue the conversation" allowing the sort of discussion and learning to carry on between the club meetings. Along with members' images, recent additions are discussions on:

  • Best of the Best - images to inspire us to keep pushing the boundaries - see below panel
  • Studio Portraits - a resource for those interested in this genre
  • Club Trips - information on interesting days out for members
  • Technical Questions - where members can ask questions and gain information
Take a look.

The Fabulous February Flickr Festival

Thanks to everyone who uploaded pictures to our Flickr site,  it was a difficult choice choosing a winner but the final results are:

3rd Place - Old Man's Morning Glory by Stan Chippett

A classic image of a classic location, Landscape Photography at it's finest.

2nd Place - There's something going down by Jeff Sinclair

A beautifully observed moment and the dog really makes it.

Winner- Kyoto Tori Shrines by Danielle Hughes

Danielle takes home the prize of a Smart Speaker with this colourful clever shot.  It shows excellent use of depth of field to isolate the subject with a final payoff in the figure? on the far left side.  The more I look at it, the I see someone wearing jeans and a white mask walking towards me, is that just pareidolia? I don't know, but it really helps me enjoy the image.

If you have any problems getting on to our H2 Flickr page try contacting our flickr admins. We're here to help.

Best of the Best

Over on Flickr the discussion of great photography, continues and is now discussing this image.

The question is why does this image work?  Remember the question is NOT do you like this image? Why not pop over to the discussion thread and make your thoughts known.
