Gordon Bramham

Just to say, that those who new Gordon Bramham sadly passed away on wednesday.  Upminster are doing a special newsletter for him,  anyone who knew him is welcome to put a little piece in.  All the entries will then go into the book of memories that his family are making.

Please get entries to audiovisualphoto@yahoo.co.uk by this Sunday evening.

Next Week - Ask The Panel

As we explore the boundaries of what we can do in virtual meetings, we thought we would try a new format.  So next week we will have a panel of members answering questions from the club.  Questions can be technical, artistic, fun, anything - this evening is very much going to be what you make it.

We need everybody to enter at least one question.

All you have to do is click on the button below and put your name & question in:

Ask A Question
If we get lots of questions it should be a really fun & interesting evening.

The zoom invite for the meetings is below, all are welcome to come along: Members & non-members alike.

Portraits with Tom Peck

Last night we had a great talk by Tom Peck.  Based on the idea of "What is a Portrait" he explored the history of portrait photography and what a portrait is and can contain.  He included many historical images and some of his own.  I really enjoyed his images of the shop keepers of Epping, he produced some really great images on his doorstep.

I am sure we will be getting Tom back for another talk soon.

Our YouTube Channel is building into quite a resource as fast as I can edit and upload the files.

For those that missed Warren's Advanced Photography talk, you can find it on the channel as well as some past talks, The Lightroom Course and Competitions.

Chris's Lightroom Course - Big Thanks

On Tuesday of last week we looked at the targeted adjustment tools in Lightroom's develop module. If you missed it you can watch it all here: https://youtu.be/SjzSf3Kdb6Q

Unfortunately, that was the final workshop :(
Over these many weeks, Chris has taken us through the (considerable) advantages of using LR to categorise, catalogue and file our images using keywords, colours, star-ratings etc., in the library module. He has clearly outlined how our images can then be effortlessly located through using the LR filters.
Then, Chris has gone on to clearly explain how our images can be improved in the develop module making tools, that at first seemed complex, easy to understand and utilise.
It has been a masterclass; Big Thanks, Chris

View Across the Lake by David Lukey

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID
H2 member, David Lukey, has recently been awarded not one, but two distinctions. This week he gained 'Winner of the Month' from the Universe of Colour Photography for his image 'View Across the Lake'.
And In May he won the monthly competition from Noir (Club of Black & White Photography) with his image, 'Midday Shadows'. Both these websites have in excess of 50,000 active members so to receive these distinctions is no small feat.
Well done, David.

It is also confirmation and inspiration that seeking, viewing and taking images that are outside what may be considered club images, does help with our photographic development.

You can see both of David's images (above and below) and on our club's Flickr page. And also, do take a look at both The Universe of Colour and the Noir websites for more information and stimulation.

FANCY WINNING A CAMERA?

As a club, we encourage all our members to have their own Flickr page and upload their images on a regular basis. We also urge members to post their favourite images onto our H2 Flickr page as this gives our members a 'one-stop shop' to view members' work. It is also a forum where members have the opportunity for helpful and constructive critique. It's one of several ways we, as a club, support, inform and stimulate our members.

And now there is extra encouragement to get a Flickr page: you have the opportunity to win a camera. The contest's theme is: 'Shine a Light' and you can read all about it here: Shine a light
It is a group that anyone with a Flickr page can enter; the theme is open to widespread interpretation allowing your creativity to flourish - take a look at the images already entered to gain a feeling for the contest. And then enter by the 23 July.
Good luck, guys

Studio Photography from the comfort of your armchair

For a lot of us, studio/flash photography is a brave new world with lots of strange gear and weird new camera settings.   The problem is that setting all the gear up whilst a model/friend/family member is waiting can be nerve-wracking as things quite often don't work how you imagined they would!

I have been recently playing with set.a.light 3D which allows you to play with studio flash on your computer.  It's really easy to use as you move lights around and adjust them in real-time.  Everything is just as adjustable as it is in real life and you can change cameras/lenses/settings with ease.

You can download it from the website & use it free for 15 days, which would be enough time to get a real feel for how studio flash works.   If you do decide to buy it you can use this promo code for 15% off BERGMAN-15

Let me know if you find this sort of recommendation of use.

Chris

Flickr Logo  The H2 Flickr group is the place to share your images with the rest of H2.  We often use it as a place to select images for external competitions and it's where we get all the images from for our newsletter.

If you have problems getting on to the group or suggestions for its use please contact the administrators.

The Programme

We have been working hard to get a programme together for the next few months.  Salvaging what we could from the old programme and taking advantage of the fact that we are meeting over zoom to bring in some speakers we would not normally have been able to:
16 July 2020 Ask the Panel
23 July 2020 Paul Radden
30 July 2020 Justin Minns
7 Aug 2020 Outdoor Evening
14 Aug 2020 David Watts
Rydal Water, Lake District 2 by Paul Major
(Panorama of individual images)
