This Week

Hi H2 Members

After the excitement of yesterday's Duplicate competition (further info. below), we have a calmer meeting this week. We have a couple of presentations:

The first is on focus-stacking: taking multiple shots, each at a different point-of-focus and then using your computer to bring them together. This technique can be used successfully in several photographic genres from macro, through still life to landscape. But maybe not street photography and portraiture :)

Yes, there are cameras that can focus-stack in-camera, however, it is always useful to learn how it can be executed post-capture, giving the photographer more control over the resulting image.

During the second presentation we will show members how to remove moving objects from an image. This technique, again, uses a multi-shot approach, and can be adopted to produce creative images of both urban scenes and landscapes.

Loughton Duplicate - the return match

You will remember that last Wednesday at Loughton Camera Club (LCC) we had the first round of this competition. Judged by Marilyn Steward, and marking each image out of 20, our twenty-four images gained 418 to Loughton's 426.

The return match was fought here at H2 last Thursday. This time the very same set of images were judged by Roy Essary. It was a busy night with many of Loughton's members joining us - at one point there were over 40 people watching the images being judged. Unfortunately, Loughton managed to hold on to their lead with the final scores being 411 to H2 and 431 to LCC. Felicitations to Loughton. And H2 live to fight another day.

After the competition, there was a surprise for an H2 member. David Woods has been honoured by having a Trophy named after him; from now this biennial competition is to be called the Duplicate Competition for the David Woods' Trophy. Heartiest congratulations to David.

A Message from David Woods

Dear All,

As you are all aware Thursday evening was a very emotional evening for me given the events that took place !

I feel very honoured to be remembered by not one but two camera clubs in future years when I pass away, who knows when, but I aim to go on as long as possible !

I congratulate the winners sound images and yet again some good composite images. Wish I had a choice of “Super Hero” costumes!

I thank both clubs for embracing Zoom for this and other meetings. They keep me up to date and in touch with you all.

Yes I miss you all but the virtual world is working, can all meetings be broadcast.... A new class of members who are in my position in life!

To keep me going I have bought an Olympus T6 and aim to try table top macros and flowers from the garden when my wheel chair arrives at the end of May.

I thank you again for the honour you have all given to me and thank you for the continued friendships offered to me by both clubs.

Needless to say my family are in awe at this and I wish two very friendly clubs all the best in future years.

Yours sincerely

David Woods CPAGB

We are running on Zoom

Having received several positive comments from our members about the Zoom video platform, we are now running all our meetings on zoom and the club has invested in a licence for our use.

Personally, I feel that being able to see everyone makes it a much more interactive experience.  I hope everyone else feels the same,  but if you have any issues, please let the committee know.

"Winner Stays On"

Last week's internal competition theme was "Alcohol". Chosen by Chris (Shepherd), he then went on to judge the many and several entries that members had created - some creative and some that made one wonder where the photographer was coming from.

So the results are: in first place is Graham (Woolmer) with his image, Alcohol 6; in second place was Dave (Hobbs) with Alcohol 2, and in third place, Jo (Cleall) with Alcohol 1. You can see their images here and well done to the winners.

As always, the winner stays on and Graham has chosen next week's theme as: "Food"; he will judge the entries this coming Thursday and select the winners. Who knows what our members' innovative minds will make of this week's theme, but please entitle your entries "Food" (numbered 1, 2, etc., if entering more than one), and upload them to our H2 Flickr page.
Best of luck
