THIS WEEK: CAMERAS OUT IT'S A PRACTICAL EVENING
Hi H2 Members
And a warm welcome to our new members who have joined us for the new season commencing in September.
Well, we've had a word with our friendly weather forecaster, Mick Fish (think that was his name), and he says the weather on Thursday (27 Aug) evening is going to be dry and warmish. So, we are meeting for another out-of-doors practical evening; this time in and around Much Hadham.
We will meet in the Village Hall car park anytime from 6pm. Yes, the nights are drawing in but with a tripod it's a great time to experiment with low-light shots. So get your creative thinking-caps on and let's get out and about with our cameras once again. There will be members on hand to answer any questions and help you shoot that special picture. And for additional ideas of what to shoot, see the "Your Image In Print" article below.
When our best images are uploaded to our H2 Flickr page, who knows, we may have a competition to judge the best shot of the evening. So polish up your lenses, get your tripods out, and fingers crossed that Mr Fish's forecast turns out to be correct (can't imagine he'd get it wrong, can you?)
Please note that due to lockdown regulations we are unable to offer refreshments.
And due to this change in the programme, the 'My Top Ten' virtual evening will now be on Thursday 3 September.

Last Week's Lotto Critique
So what do you get if you cross a lottery with judging images? It's obvious: a lotto critique, where randomly picked members critique haphazardly selected images.
And that's just what we had last week at H2. Well done to members who entered over 40 images to be randomly selected. As each image came up on the screen the same clever bit of auto-selecting software (aka Chris) picked two members to reveal what they thought of the image. It was fascinating to hear the many and varied opinions and cogent views.
The evening was great fun. But more than that, it made us all think more carefully about the images: their composition, their structure and, importantly, the emotional effect they had on us. Unquestionably, there's more to see in our images over and above the prosaic photographic essentials such as like sharpness and exposure.
And the good news is that we viewed less than 20 of the images; more than enough for another Lotto Critique evening.

Your Image In Print...
The editor of Much Hadham Parish Magazine has asked for colour images to feature on the front page. She has asked for any shots that can be recognised as Much Hadham, be they landscapes, streetscapes or buildings. Given that they are for the front page, she asks for them to be 'portrait' format and she is quite happy to have a big sky or similar at the top to allow the magazine title to be placed in the top half.
As we know editors have to work to deadlines, and she is now planning the November edition. She would like to feature a creative colour shot of Much Hadham War Memorial on its front page and has asked H2 if we can supply an image.
Of course we can - so come on guys, this is a great opportunity to motivate ourselves, to unfurl our shutter-finger, get out and picture our environment, with the added impetus to get one of our images in print.
Please upload your images to our H2 Flickr page and they will be submitted to the editor for selection

Your Image in Print... (again)
We need images of Much Hadham Church to act as a gift to the departing headmistress of the school.
So, please upload any images of the church you have (full size) to our Flickr page by midnight Friday 28th as Jon will be arranging an independent judging to select the winning image which we will then print and mount as a gift.

How to Reverse Image Search on Google
During Thursdays lotto Critique the subject of reverse image searches came up.
To reverse image search in Google, you need to head to Google Images or click on the images link at the top right of the google screen:

Then select the camera icon in the search bar.
Then, either paste the URL of the image you want to search for, or upload it from your computer
Click the ‘Search by image’ button to the right of the search bar, and Google will bring up your search results, including webpages that contain the same image, different sized versions, and similar images.
Here I uploaded one of my own images and it not only identified the location but also found similar images. Always good to know how unoriginal you are ;)

The Programme for the Weeks Ahead
Our committee have been working hard to create a programme for the next few months, retaining what we could from the old programme and taking advantage of the fact that we are meeting over Zoom to bring in some speakers we would not normally have been able to. As the CV19 lockdown eases we are also endeavouring to organise practical evenings where we can meet (and remain safe)
