H2 NEWSLETTER - HELLO
Hi Guys
Lots going on at H2 this week: on Sunday (25th) members will be meeting in Epping Forest. This is an annual occasion organised by Chris - full details of time and venue are given below This year we will obviously have to abide by HM Government regulations. This will not be difficult, it's a large forest :)
---------
Then on Thursday (29th) we have a presentation / workshop by Andrew Page. Andrew specialises in capturing naturally dramatic, compelling and atmospheric landscape photographs from viewpoints well away from the beaten track.
He also undertakes commercial assignments, supplying high quality images for marketing/publicity materials and stock libraries.
A range of field workshops for landscapes and scenics are also offered as well as home or office-based Lightroom workshops.
Andrew learned his craft with film cameras in both 35mm and medium format, and now works almost entirely digitally whilst maintaining the approach and skills learned with film cameras.
His website is called: Silver Lining Photography

This Sunday the 25 October, Chris is cordially inviting members to join him for a socially-distanced, Government-regulated day in Epping Forest. The details are:

In addition to any photography gear you need, boots/ wellies are highly recommended as it is very muddy in places. plus a packed lunch/drink is highly recommended as we will usually be far from civilisation at lunchtime.
Tripods, Macro lenses and reflectors are recommended if we find any fungus to photograph.
Don't forget the clocks go back on Sunday!!

Learnt a Lot
Last Thursday's practical evening was a great way to see how people actually process their images.
We started off with Chris taking us through "The Orton Effect" which is a simple way to make forest images glow.
Jo took us through how she created a couple of her interesting textured images and how she created all her library of textures from around the house.
Paul took us through the HDR processing of his image of 5 Broadgate, London. Taking us through how HDR works in Affinity, perspective correction, cropping and removing distractions. Really showing how powerful this software is and how to get excellent images from it.
Finally, it was back to Chris for a quick look at the Aurora HDR software and how to get a reasonable exposure when you are dealing with somewhere that has extremes of contrast.
Hopefully, everyone got an idea or two out of it. If you have any ideas for things you would like to know more about then please let us know.

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS
Six-way battle at Loughton
As we are all acutely aware, it has taken a while for H2 to adapt to the 'new normal' of virtual meetings and to re-organise our programme. Of course, all camera clubs have suffered from the same circumstances and an early casualty was that external competitions ceased totally.
We are all cordially invited
Lately however, they are starting to burgeon again, and H2 have been invited to enter Loughton CC's Six-way battle on Wednesday 4 November at 8pm. Unsurprisingly, it will be run on Zoom. All members are invited to 'attend' from the comfort of their own homes and the Zoom login details will be sent out soon.
We really appreciate seeing your images
We use only members' images for the external competitions. And these are chosen from our H2 Flickr page. So, that is another excellent reason to continue to upload your best images.
H2 try to enter as many external competitions as possible as it promotes our outward-looking attitude, keeps us competitive and in-touch with the ever-changing and dynamic photographic world.

Textures' Month - nearly finished
Congratulations, H2 members, this has been a really successful competition with dozens of images uploaded to our H2 Flickr page - do take a look at the many creative and original images already uploaded.
In early November we will judge which of the images is deemed the best Texture Image. We have another week or so - keep those inventive juices flowing, guys.
For those members who need help with layers and masks (whether you are using Photoshop, Elements or Affinity) please email us - in this virtual world it is easy to share screens and give a helping-hand

The Programme for the Weeks Ahead
Here is our programme for the next few weeks. Your committee is retaining what we can from the old programme and taking advantage of the fact that we are meeting over Zoom to bring in some speakers we would not normally have been able to.
Unfortunately with the recent sharp increase in CV19 cases, our plans for in-person practicals have had to be popped back in the virtual box and will be regularly reviewed
