This Week: Photohunt Critique

Our Christmas photohunt comes to an end this week with a chance for everyone to view the images & share their critique of them. There is still time to shoot some ideas for the critique and get them in before Tuesday 18th. Please mail your entries to dpi@hcphoto.org.uk with the subject "photohunt".

Also this week we introduce something new - monotriage, an attempt to help everyone produce our best work for competition. Please support it if you can.

Help Needed

Folks, we desperately need a volunteer to step forward and help the club. As you may be aware, as well as Chairman, Co-newsletter editor, webmaster & general tech dweeb I have also been covering the role of program secretary.

Combined with other matters in my life this has proved to be too much for one person and I really need someone to take on the programme secretary role before exhaustion gets the better of me.

Luckily these days with the zoom register and email it is all a lot simpler than it used to be, the work involved is basically:

Plan & book next years programme, I can help with this but it is really just a few evenings work.
Two weeks before an event mail the speaker/judge to confirm everything is OK
After the event send a thank you mail
Attend zoom committee meetings

I would be really grateful if someone would volunteer to take on this role, please email committee@h2photo.org.uk if you think you can help.

Last Week's Mono conversion Practical

We looked at various ways to turn your images into B&W.
Jeff started with a look at mono in lightroom and introduced the new masking tools in Lightroom which are a great improvement on what was available previously.

Here is a video for those who wish to investigate further.

Paul took a look at Infrared photography and Affinity, showing how you can achieve the look with filters, modified cameras or in Affinity via editing. A couple of related videos:

Mono-Triage

One of the things we are keen to do is to help everyone in H2 achieve their photographic goals. As part of this, we thought we would try something different. The idea is to offer people a chance to get a critique/extra set of eyes to look at your images before they go into competition.

If you would like to give it a go then email monotriage@h2photo.org.uk with your image and another member will look at your image and offer suggestions for improvement.

Interested in critiquing other members? images then mail committee@h2photo.org.uk and we will add you to the group.

The Twelve 'Days of Christmas' Photo Hunt

Yes, we know that Christmas has been and gone...but our "Christmas" photo hunt continues.

The challenge to H2 members is "hunt" and then capture images on a dozen different titles & topics.

The assignment is designed to encourage our creativity and our planning of images.

So here are the twelve titles/topics - (members, do take a look at our H2 Flickr page as there are some brilliant images already uploaded):

H2 Meetings and Omicron

Please note, as the Omicron variant continues its high infection rate, the committee has taken the decision to move our meetings onto zoom until February. We may be Zoom-only for longer than that; as we all know now, our planning in a Covid world has to be quite flexible!

Well done and thank you to members Warren, Geoff and Jonathan for regularly updating our H2 SHOWCASE page on Flickr.

Much Hadham Parish Magazine Needs Our Images

The Editor of our local Parish Magazine would love to see more of our images of Much Hadham and its environs to go on this year's front pages. Images can be as straightforward or as creative as we like to make them.

There are two constraints however: firstly the images need to be in colour and, secondly, they need to be portrait format. It's a great opportunity to see our images in print.

Rules for Competition entries

Prints need to be handed in a week before the competition (but as we meet every other week it is actually 2 weeks in advance), a digital copy of the image must also be submitted via email.

Digital Images need to be submitted 10 days before via email

How to Submit Images via Email

First prepare images following the guidelines for projected images.
Create a new email to dpi@h2photo.org.uk
Set the Subject of the email to the name of the competition from the lists below.
Attach your files and send them

You should get a reply within a few minutes telling you if your entry has been successful.

Example
To enter the Portrait competition we send an email to dpi@h2photo.org.uk with the subject Portrait with our pictures attached to it.
