We have our panel competition, on zoom. We have never tried a panel competition online before so we should be in for an interesting evening.

Last Week - Smartphone photography

We had an excellent talk from Jeanette Lendon all about using a smartphone for photography. She was an excellent and inspiring speaker who was clearly passionate about what you can do with the camera you carry everywhere.

I think lots of members are now thinking about upgrading their phone rather than their camera.

Jeanettes' Notes

1. Here are some notes re what Snapseed can do which I hope will be helpful, but as I mentioned, the short tutorials within Snapseed itself are also great (three little dots in the top right-hand corner when in Snapseed). There was is a bit of a glitch with the iPhone 12 Pro Max (it seems to only be with the Max), where it froze the phone, but it looks like it’s been sorted out now. If anyone has this model, I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Snapseed again to see if this helps. The other App I use for cloning is Retouch, as mentioned below.

3. I’ve also added a screenshot of some of the selfie sticks you can get from Amazon - this isn’t an up to date representation of what Amazon have, but just to show that they are pretty much of a muchness. Just make sure the bluetooth clicker is removable and not embedded into the handle.

4. The continuous video light I use instead of the phone’s built-in flash is this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B097TC6NDJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which can either be clipped on to the top of the phone or handheld.

5. Tiny people - These guys are pretty good for small people - https://northwesternmodels.co.uk/products/categories/n-gauge/people-n-gauge/ or Google ’model train set figures’ and lots come up.

6. With regard the Apps I use, these are:-

Snapseed - editing
Retouch - much better for cloning and deleting objects than Snapseed although I think it is around the £1.99 price (but worth it!!!)
Image size - great for resizing images (dpi, cm, mm, inches).
Logolicious - great if you want to put your logo on things - absolutely rubbish name!!!
Clos - iPhone - iPhone/ipad remote shooting
The Shutter App - android remote shooting (controlled by your laptop)
Slow shutter - long exposure app for when I want more than the iPhone’s inbuilt 2 second ‘live’ long exposure

Much Hadham Parish Magazine Needs Our Images

The Editor of our local Parish Magazine would love to see more of our images of Much Hadham and its environs to go on this year's front pages. Images can be as straightforward or as creative as we like to make them.

There are two constraints however: firstly the images need to be in colour and, secondly, they need to be portrait format. It's a great opportunity to see our images in print.

Rules for Competition entries

Prints need to be handed in a week before the competition (but as we meet every other week it is actually 2 weeks in advance), a digital copy of the image must also be submitted via email.

Digital Images need to be submitted 10 days before via email

How to Submit Images via Email

First prepare images following the guidelines for projected images.
Create a new email to dpi@h2photo.org.uk
Set the Subject of the email to the name of the competition from the lists below.
Attach your files and send them

You should get a reply within a few minutes telling you if your entry has been successful.

Example
To enter the Portrait competition we send an email to dpi@h2photo.org.uk with the subject Portrait with our pictures attached to it.
