We're In The Hall, H2ers

Hello, and welcome to this week's H2 Newsletter.

This Thursday (25 May) we are meeting in person in Much Hadham Village Hall for a presentation by Daniel Bridge entitled Close-up and Macro Nature Photography.

His talk has subjects ranging from insects to flowers, abstracts to animals. Covering the different types of close-up and macro shots we can take, the variety of subjects available, lighting, lenses and accessories, techniques, focus stacking, and more.

Daniel has visited us before this year and is an excellent, informed and motivational speaker. Do take a look at his excellent website.

We intend to use this as a practical test of Live Streaming from the hall, probably onto our Facebook group.  So if you can't be in the hall keep an eye on our YouTube Channel... Who knows we may even get it to work!

Thursday 8 Jun: Is our fourth (and final) DPI league competition of this season. It's still close at the top of the leaderboard; who will be this year's winner we wonder? Last entires to H2 Towers by Sunday 28 May (gives us time to send them to the judge and upload to the software). Please email to dpi@h2photo.org.uk with the subject: League4.

Monday 12 June: We have an external competition against five other local clubs: Potters Bar, Loughton, Enfield & Southgate. They are meeting in-person at Potters Bar's venue: Wyllyots Centre, Wyllyots Place, Derkes Lane, Potters Bar, EN6 2HZ. All are welcome, the fun starts at 19.45h.

Wednesday 21 June: The Thaxted Morris Men will be at The Jolly Brewers pub at Bishops Stortford, CM23 3BQ. Morris dancing is always photogenic (and challenging) - check out their website here for more information on times and other venues.

Thursday 29 June: We are going to have our evening meeting in ol' London Town (Tower of London area). More information nearer the time but pop it in your diary now.

Thursday 29 June: Hand-in for our Natural History Competition - this is a DPI competition.

Thursday 6 July: Natural History Competition over Zoom and independently judged.

Ideas for August: (and some of July, too) We are requesting members to suggest ideas for our Summer meets on a Thursday, once this season's programme concludes and before we restart on 7 September. Please give us your ideas for what you'd like to photograph and where you'd like to go, and we'll endeavour to get it organised. Just email us your ideas, please.

Any member who has questions or needs help with submitting images, simply email us on committee@h2photo.org.uk (or just ask on our H2 WhatsApp group), and we will assist you.

Last Week...

We had the second half of our Duplicate Competition against Loughton Camera Club. This is a unique competition as it occurs every 2 years and each club hosts an evening with a different judge but the same images.

After a hard-fought first round, we were some 30 points behind but there was still everything to play for. Usually, this comp would be in the hall but as it was in use, the comp was over Zoom.  This necessitated Paul Major taking all the prints up to Cambridge so our judge for the evening, Jim Bennett, could view them (thanks Paul).

This made for some interesting comments on the print round as Jim had seen both the physical print and the projected version of that print, which never normally happens.

H2 held their own in the projected comp but we were sadly lacking when it came to prints and we were knocked into second place.  So we have 2 years to up our game for the rematch.

Useful Links...

We had several beneficial comments from H2 members at our AGM last week. Your committee is listening and we have instigated this panel to give links (and other information) about our club activity that members have requested routine access to.

Here we have a link to the Club's Programme for the entire season. Do check it regularly because it is occasionally amended.

Here we have a link to the Club's DPI League Competition scores.

Other results can be found here.

Committee Meeting Minutes can be found here

Information on upcoming practicals will be given in the Things Upcoming section above allowing more time for members to prepare.
