This week we are meeting in Much Hadham Village Hall.

It's a practical evening of animal photography, so do bring along your cameras. After last week's instructive Zoom presentation by pet-photographer, Steve Thewis (see below article), we are certainly prepared to create our own perfect-pet-pictures.

Several members will be bringing along their pets so expect the unexpected and we again thank Lynne, our programme secretary, for suggesting and piloting it.
 

We haven't a clue how it will go but one thing is for sure, it will be fun - do come along and join in

Whilst we are meeting in person this week we thought it a good idea to ask members to bring along their latest prints. These can be mounted or unmounted - it would be great to see our work in print again after so long.

So no need to kiss any frogs to find your prints :), just bring them along to Much Hadham Village Hall this Thursday (29th).
 

And who knows, they may get chosen to represent H2PS in the upcoming external competitions.

We had a fascinating presentation from Steve Thewis on pet and animal portraiture. The first thing that was evident was that Steve is an animal lover, be they dogs, horses, birds of prey, meerkats or foxes. Or snakes.

The other thing that was obvious was that he has studied his models and his presentation included intriguing facts, for example: horses reactions are faster than humans (so, best not stand behind them...), and leopard gecko's bark. He also had helpful advice on animal psychology - animals certainly do not see the world as we do - to take the best images, Steve advises understanding "their world"; respect the animals you work with and their welfare is always paramount.

Part of his talk was describing "what's in his bag". Many of us were expecting to hear what his photography equipment was. Amusingly, what he actually told us was what toys he takes to entertain & distract his models :)

We need your best images...
Looking forward to next month, on Thursday 13 October we have the first round of our PDI club league competition.

Critiqued and marked, as always, by an independent judge, we encourage all members to start looking through their best work so they can enter 3 images into this competition.

To enter you need to send 3 images in emails with the title "League1" to dpi@h2photo.org.uk before 11pm on 2 October 2022.  Ideally, you should prepare your images following the guidelines here but if you are having trouble just email them in and the system should sort them out for you.

Please Note: The emails are handled by an automatic process,  if you do not get a response back within 1 hour of sending your images then please mail chris@shepherdpics.com and I will see if I can help.
 

We have said many times that having your work critiqued is an excellent way to learn, improve and become "the photographer you wish to become"

Membership payments
For those who haven't yet, it is time to renew our membership in our club. Details for this are in the panel below.

Membership entitles you to enter all our competitions and allows you access to our private Flickr & Whatsapp groups. Importantly, it also pays for speakers, judges and equipment.

The price has been frozen for the last 3 years so it is probably the only thing that isn't affected by inflation this year!
