The H2 Newsletter
Welcome to this week's Newsletter. This Thursday we had a table-top practical evening. It began with Heather (Clarke) giving us an informative lecture on the basics of depth of focus. At one point during her presentation she persuaded three members to stand at the front in single-file to demonstrate foreground, mid ground and distance and what (who?) would be in focus at different f-stops.
She also had a multitude of commonsensical ways to experiment with table-top photography without spending a fortune, including using economical LED light-sources, home-made reflectors, using BlueTac to hold subjects and how to make-your-own bean bag support. Heather then invited members to practice on two setups she had created at the front of the hall.
At the back of the hall, Paul (Radden) and Graham (Woolmer) were guiding members to create water-droplet and multi-coloured oil-on-water shots.
To the side Stan (Chippett) was exploring photographing textures and still life images under different lighting conditions and opposite him, Paul (Major) was venturing into photo-stacking territory.
Members moved from one "learning station" to another, some not even stopping for the tea break; it is safe to say that we all went home knowing more about table-top photography than when we came.
A big thank you to those members who setup the stations for their energy and interest and expertise. And keep an eye on our H2 Flickr page for the images that our members created.

Message On behalf of Stevenage Photographic Society

We have a very special lecture from Antony Penrose, who will talk about the photographic life of his mother, Lee Miller. His talks have been highly recommended to us by members of photographic clubs in the Southern Counties region and as we're not aware of him having lectured in our area we think the talk may be of wider interest than our own membership.
Monday 21st October 2019, start time 7.45pm - 10pm.
'Backstage at the Lee Miller Archive' and 'The Legendary Lee Miller', by Antony Penrose.
Tickets can be purchased from the Stevenage PS website for £5 each.
Please visit stevenagephotographicsociety.org.uk for more information.
